Peaceful Nation was created during the Boston Red Sox run to their first World Series
Championship in 86 years and there is as magical a story behind the painting as there is to the
Sox's storybook season. The painting was actually "completed" as the Red Sox-Yankees
series was just starting. With the Sox down 3-0, my husband (for whom it was painted) hung
the painting at work. A typical Red Sox fan, he was ready to add 2004 to the ever growing list
of heartbreaking Red Sox disappointments....and then they never lost again. Daily water
cooler conversation about how the painting could not be moved as the series
continued....Roberts, Mueller and Ortiz, 3-1...Big Papi again...3-2....blood and guts Curt, 3-3.
By then, we were all keeping the faith. And, in a suburban town in Massachusetts, a small
group of people think there may have been something artistic and magical that let a nation rest
peacefully. And so, when the dream season was finally over, the finishing touch was added to
Peaceful Nation. If you look closely, the scoring history is captured in the shadows of this
magical work of art.
